Security Measures for Premises

External:
- Secure perimeter.
- Strengthen or replace doors and windows.
- Install an alarm system and consider CCTV.
- Ensure adequate and reliable key-holder response.
- Fit grills and shutters.
- Reduce the burglary risk by locking up ladders and restricting access to flat roofs. Use anti-climb paint on drainpipes.
- Employ good housekeeping principles – clearing rubbish to limit the risk of an arson attack and remove trees and shrubs away from doors and windows.
- Consider the use of transparent polyester anti-shatter film (ASF) to glass, to reduce fragments and splinter.
- New buildings should be designed with blast-resistant, laminated glass or secondary double glazing.
- Restrict access points to a minimum.

Internal:
- Ensure window displays do not block visibility.
-Protect valuable stock with cabinets, grills, alarms and dummy goods.
-Seek advice about suitable locations for tills and safes.
-Use mirrors or CCTV to monitor hidden areas and display warning notices.
-Secure IT equipment and data.
-Employ strict key control – avoid duplication and unauthorized access.
