Managing the Risk

-Think about the threats your business may face and the risks they pose.
- Take the best available advice on how to reduce the chances that a terrorist attack will cause injury to your staff and visitors and disrupt your business activities.
- Carry out risk assessments.
- Develop Contingency and Business Continuity plans and ensure staff are familiar with and practice them. Ensure they are compatible with those held by the Emergency Services. Review and up-date regularly.
- Review system of pre-employment checks to ensure staff are bona fide and prevent infiltration from within.
- Confirm identity from official and original documents; request proof of academic or professional qualifications. Individuals should be required to obtain statement of ’Basic Disclosures’ from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB).

Additional Measures
- Set up mail handling facilities away from main office areas and train staff.
- If premises are new, plan Security from the outset.
- Make security awareness part of the business culture.
- Use reputable contractors to secure your premises and IT systems.
- Ensure you have adequate check lists to deal with telephoned Bomb Threats.
